Communities Sparkle in the Judge’s Eyes
4th June 2010
begins
Green-fingered communities across the region have been celebrating their success as the Yorkshire in Bloom Spring Judging results were announced.
Following the worst winter in 30 years, a set of exceptional results were achieved, with 5 Gold, 42 Silver Gilt, 38 Silver and only 4 Bronze being awarded, giving a healthy start to the 2010 campaign. The entries judged to be of the Gold standard were: Driffield, Dunnington, Ilkley, Scholes and Starbeck.
According to Chris Beard, Chair of Yorkshire in Bloom, these results show how much effort the community groups have put into their entries and also shows that the standard of the entries is rising. Chris said: “All of our entries have risen to the challenge and our judges have been impressed with the amount of work and commitment they have seen through what has been one of our coldest and longest winters. The spring displays have been some of the best ever; with tulips lasting for weeks and so much blossom it has been a spectacular spring. It all bodes well for a bumper year for bloom.
“Entry numbers in the Yorkshire in Bloom campaign are constant and there have been 10 new or re-entering entries, again showing there is an appetite from the communities to get involved and make their communities sparkle. This in itself is amazing considering the economic climate and some areas are facing cuts in their local authority budgets which is impacting on their entry.”
