National Gardening Week 16th to 22nd April 2012

RHS launches new National Gardening Week 16-22 April 2012

The RHS is launching its first National Gardening Week in spring 2012 to get Britain engaged in gardening. The event ties in with RHS Britain in Bloom, supported by Anglian Home Improvements and the year of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Throughout the week there will be top gardening tips from experts, helpful horticultural career advice, and a range of fun activities for families at each of the four RHS Gardens.

On  Monday 16 April the RHS Advisory service is providing a Gardening SOS service. The service is on hand to answer gardening queries from members and non-members alike.

The RHS is asking UK residents to send in photographs of their gardens on Tuesday 17 April, a day named 'Gardens of the Nation'. The best images will form part of the charity’s award-winning Lindley Library archives to provide a historical record of gardens today.

Alan Titchmarsh will be heading 'A Career To Be Proud Of Day' on Wednesday 18 April. RHS staff will be giving inspirational talks at the four RHS gardens and London headquarters on the gardening world and rewarding horticultural careers.

Compost day is the theme of Thursday 19 April; the RHS will provide extensive advice and top tips to encourage and help the nation to get composting.

Friday 20 April is all about getting children gardening. The RHS is launching a new Campaign for School Gardening initiative at its first major gardening show of the year, RHS Show Cardiff (20-22 April).

On Saturday 21 April and Sunday 22 April there will be fun and interactive activities for gardeners of all ages and levels of experience at the four RHS Gardens with opportunities to garden with RHS gardeners, receiving expert advice.

Sue Biggs, RHS Director General, says; 'It is fantastic that this inaugural gardening week combines with the Britain in Bloom launch and the year of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to get the nation growing. Sue Biggs continues; 'There are more exciting plans in the pipeline which we’ll be announcing in the lead up to the week'.
